GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • AL-DAV Directorate of Employment (DOE) fully understands the challenges and journey from injury, transitioning back to  civilian life (veteran-to-civilian),  unemployment, underemployment, to recovery is not complete until a veteran is able to find meaningful employment in his or her life. As the nation winds down from years of war, many thousands are in need of meaningful employment and career opportunities. (DOE) is not an employment agency”, but rather DOE focus is to (1) provide veterans and their families centralized websites where job and career resources are found, (2) information on upcoming job/career expos, (3) provide feedback and assistance via DOE website, and (4) facilitating the aforementioned for all veterans and family members who visit the DOE website.  It is our intent that your DOE and veterans working together as a TEAM (together everyone achieves more), without a doubt can make a difference in veterans lives

  • AL-DAV is committed to ensuring that the men and women who stood up for America have the tools, resources and opportunities they need to competitively enter the job market and secure meaningful employment. Through hosting All-Veteran Job/Career Opportunity Expos in partnership with a host of corporations, chambers of commerce, service officers assisting in VA/DOD benefits and claims, and other organizations which believe in helping AL-DAV to address one of the greatest needs facing our nation’s veterans today, meaningful employment. AL-DAV completely supports the nation’s veteran’s employment goals by bridging the “gap” that exists within the Great State of Alabama by hosting job/career opportunities expos in all State of Alabama DAV districts (D;1-4), not only Birmingham (D-2), but three (3) other major cities of Huntsville: D-1, Montgomery: D-3; and Mobile: D-4,that were not being provided job/career expos in the past.

  • Job-seekers are looking for many different things in potential employment and approach jobs/careers with varying levels of commitment and enthusiasm. Veterans are well trained and possess the abilities to add value to every assigned unit they belong to, and this will apply to their civilian jobs and careers as well. Life without employment is extremely difficult (if not impossible) for veterans who still can provide more than an honest day’s work to earn an honest living and meaningful employment to provide for their family. The distinction between a job and a career depends upon the individual veteran and spouse. Some may search for a position that allows a steady paycheck, easy work schedule, but for others  it is a means to make a difference, while others may search for a more long tern future in the industry they’re passionate about becoming a team member.
